Microneedling Q & A
What is microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as percutaneous collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure involving tiny needles that make small channels in the top layer of your skin to stimulate your skin's healing process and improve skin conditions.
The small punctures from microneedling cause your skin to repair itself through collagen and elastin production, naturally improving your complexion and texture.
At Pure Dermatology, the team of professionals specializes in microneedling to address skin concerns on your face, neck, or other areas of your body. If you have a skin condition that impacts your self-esteem or causes discomfort, you may benefit from microneedling.
What skin conditions does microneedling treat?
Microneedling works to smoothen fine lines and rough skin and address discoloration in the skin. At Pure Dermatology, your dermatologist uses microneedling to treat several skin conditions, such as:
- Acne scars
- Wrinkles
- Sunspots
- Large pores
- Hyperpigmentation
- Stretch marks
The Pure Dermatology team discusses your treatment goals to help you determine the right treatment method for you and explain how microneedling can help.
How does the microneedling procedure work?
When you arrive for your consultation at Pure Dermatology, your provider asks about your skin concerns and medical history. The team discusses your treatment goals to ensure they meet your needs.
About 30 minutes before the procedure, your provider cleanses your skin and applies a topical numbing cream. Once your skin feels numb, they move a handheld electric device along the top layer of your skin, creating small holes. You may feel a warm, scratching sensation during the microneedling treatment. The procedure typically lasts between 15 to 30 minutes.
What should I expect after my procedure?
Because microneedling does not cause significant damage to your skin, you’ll be able to return to your daily activities after your procedure.
However, the team at Pure Dermatology will give you detailed post-operative instructions to reduce redness and swelling. Your skin may feel tight, dry, and flaky for a couple of days after the procedure. These conditions are normal and should improve with frequent moisturizing.
Though most people require multiple microneedling procedures, some patients notice results within two weeks after their first treatment.
